Community Meeting on SWLRT Safety Issues: August 27

Do you have safety concerns about the construction of Southwest Light Rail? Share your concerns at a public meeting with Fire Chief John Fruetel, city and county emergency departments and other officials on:

Tuesday, August 27
7:00-8:30 p.m.
Kenwood Community Center, 2101 W Franklin Ave

The meeting is co-sponsored by CIDNA and the Kenwood Neighborhood Organization.

Concerns expressed will be presented to the Met Council at a future meeting about SWLRT safety to be convened by the City, as required by new legislation (authored by Rep. Hornstein and Sen. Dibble).

The August 27 meeting will also feature a presentation by Minneapolis Fire Chief Fruetel about how fire services are deployed and how the department navigates road closures and traffic on a regular basis.

Southwest Minneapolis Parks
Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) published revised concepts for the Southwest Parks Plan.  A single revised concept for each neighborhood park property is now available for review online. Share your comments.
See the proposed concept for the parks in Cedar-Isles-Dean.

Comment on Revised Park Concepts
View the preferred concept for all of the parks in SW Minneapolis. An online survey is available for public feedback. Take the survey.

What happens next? The Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will meet to discuss the revised concepts, provide direction to project staff and ultimately make recommendations for each park property. CAC meeting schedule:

  • CAC Meeting: Monday, August 19, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at at Kenwood Community Center, 2101 W Franklin Ave

After the CAC recommendation process, MPRB staff will write the full master plan document and post it online for a 45-day public comment period, which will be followed by a public hearing and final adoption by the Board of Commissioners.

Visit the project webpage for more information.
